Bio
Melissa Tremblay (b.1977) is an emerging Canadian photographer and visual artist from Quebec. She first explored photography as a self-taught. In 2020, after living 4 years in Asia, she decided to pursue an artistic career. She studied photography at College Marsan in Montreal and graduated with honors for the best portfolio in 2021. The following year, she has been awarded Emerging Photographer of the Year at the 8th edition of the Marsan's best talents competition, in collaboration with Sony Canada and the McCord Stewart Museum.
Artistic approach
Guided by her intuition and feelings, her exploratory creative process combines different approaches to photography, including documentary, portraiture and staging. She creates poetic spaces where dream and reality intertwine to form visual stories imbued with vulnerability. Through natural light, colours and symbols, her pictures evoke a sense of nostalgia with a touch of mystery. By merging notions of past and present, distance and proximity, softness and roughness, her works often reveals faces and places that are more enigmas than answers. Thus provoking reflections on our beliefs and values in our changing societies.
